The Center
The OLPC Global Center for Laptop and Learning is the first academic center to do action research on saturated use of laptops for learning. Most significantly, this Center is in Rwanda, so that the idea of one laptop per child (that is, the idea, not the organization) can be seriously studied in the context of developing nations.
It aims to support making Rwanda the global exemplar for excellence in education through the use of laptops and help invent the learning environments for the digital age.
Given its location in Africa, it is also the intended that the Center are going to support countries in the region that are launching their 1:1 initiatives.
As the overall goal the center helps children develop fully; as humans respecting the rights of others; as critical thinkers able to…;as innovators, using technology to create new ideas, materials, …;as collaborators…; as literate citizens in all senses of literacy; in short, in all 21dst century skills
Research and development
The center R&D philosophy is of active development and participation; not just sitting back and passively observing. It is through the interaction with the real challenger of laptops deployed in the school that we are going to develop grounded solutions for education.
